Cwmrheidol Reservoir
About
The River Rheidol (Afon Rheidol in Welsh) is 19 miles in length with a catchment area
covering 73 square miles. It rises in the headwaters of the Nant y Moch reservoir on the western edge of Plynlimon and then flows south through the village of Ponterwyd on the main Aberystwyth to Rhayader road. Continuing south-westwards through ancient Welsh Oak woodlands.
The river descends one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Wales at Pontarfynach (Devil's Bridge). Below these waterfalls, the river passes the abandoned workings of the Cwm Rheidol lead mine. The remainder of the meandering course of the river is through an ever-widening valley before reaching the sea at Aberystwyth.

The Butterfly House
History - The Trust was established in 2000 with the aim of encouraging an appreciation and understanding of nature. The idea was to set up a centre where people could learn first-hand about plants and animals. Away from books and short-term learning for exams, we wanted a place where people could learn by experience. Watching a butterfly emerge from its pupae says more than a thousand words. It would be both a celebration of the natural world as well as being an informative centre for learning.

Rheidol Fish Ladder
Fourteen connected pools allow fish to bypass the Rheidol falls. This is necessary because the water levels are reduced due to the abstraction of water above the Rheidol gorge to feed Rheidol power station. - There is a bridge to cross the river from the cycling route with picknick benches located just out of the picture on the right hand side.

The Ystwyth Trail To Black Covert woods
About
The Ystwyth Trail is a 32.1km/20M cycle route and footpath linking Aberystwyth and Tregaron.
Part of the trail follows the track of the old Great Western Railway line.
Most of the off-road sections of the Ystwyth Trail are suitable for families with young children. Dogs should be kept on leads and young children supervised – the route crosses -
public highways at several points.
The complete trail is suitable for experienced cyclists. The trail offers access to Tregaron and Lampeter Cycle Break Centre routes and to Sustrans Route 81 (Lôn Cambria) linking Aberystwyth with Shrewsbury and Route 82 (Lôn Teifi) linking Aberystwyth to Cardigan and Fishguard.

Aberystwyth South Beach & Harbour
The Infamous Ystwyth river on which the trail is based comes to end as it meets the sea at Aberystwyth South Beach. Overviewing is the Iron Age Hillfort named 'Pen Dinas' which creates a wonderful spectacle and a nice place to explore on a sunny day.
Pen Dinas or more correctly 'Dinas Maelor', this could be translated into English as 'Maelor's Fort' or 'Maelor's City'. Tradition refers to it as being the fort of the giant Maelor Gawr. Pen Dinas strictly speaking only refers to the highest point, 'Pen y Dinas' or 'Head of the Citadel', (upon which the Wellington Monument now stands). The southern summit is also where, in the Bronze Age, a burial mound was erected.
